Our Commitment to Privacy

Northern Dread Inc. ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. Unlike many companies, we actually mean it. This privacy policy applies to all applications published under the Northern Dread and "Simple Apps by Northern Dread" brands, as well as our website and any products we sell.

The short version: We collect as little as possible, we don't sell anything, and what little we do collect is only used to make our services work.

App-Specific Data Practices

Different apps have different needs. Here's exactly what each app collects:

Nickels & Dimes

Data collected: None.

Everything stays on your device. Your budget data, your transactions, your financial information — it's all yours. We don't see it, we don't store it, we don't want it.

Fleeting

Minimal data for spam prevention only.

To prevent spam and abuse, we temporarily collect:

Device identifier: Used to limit posting frequency
Retention: Automatically deleted after 24 hours
Purpose: Spam prevention only
No tracking: Not used for analytics or advertising

We do not collect the content of your posts, your location, or any other personal information.

Website Data Practices

Our website (northerndread.ca) collects minimal information necessary to function:

Contact Forms

If you contact us through our website, we collect your name and email address. We use this information only to respond to your inquiry. We don't add you to mailing lists without permission.

Shop Orders

If you purchase products through our Shopify store, Shopify collects and processes shipping information and payment details on our behalf. We don't store payment information ourselves — Shopify handles all transaction processing securely. Order information is retained by Shopify as needed to fulfill orders and handle returns or issues.

Server Logs

Like any website, our servers automatically log basic technical information (IP addresses, browser type, pages visited). We use this only to keep the site running and secure. We don't use it for tracking or advertising.

What We Don't Do

Here's what you won't find at Northern Dread:

No selling your data. Ever. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
No invasive tracking. We use Fathom for privacy-first, cookieless analytics — no cross-site tracking, no ad pixels, no personal data collection. Details in the Third-Party Services section below.
No behavioral profiling. We don't build profiles about you or your habits.
No data sharing with "partners." We don't have marketing partners who want your information.
No targeted advertising. We don't serve ads based on your behavior or data.
No email spam. We only email you if you explicitly ask us to (order confirmations, support replies, etc.).

We use minimal third-party services, and only when necessary:

Payment Processing

Our shop runs on Shopify, which handles all payment processing securely. Shopify manages payment information according to their privacy policy. We never see or store your credit card information.

Hosting & Infrastructure

Our website and apps are hosted on secure servers. These providers may have access to server logs for technical maintenance, but they're not permitted to use this data for their own purposes.

Privacy-Friendly Analytics

We use Fathom Analytics on this website — a privacy-first, cookieless analytics tool that never tracks individuals, never sells data, and stays compliant with GDPR and PIPEDA. No Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel, no cross-site tracking. Ever.

Data Security

We take reasonable precautions to protect any data we do collect:

Encrypted connections (HTTPS) for all web traffic
Secure server configurations and regular updates
Limited access to any stored information
Automatic deletion of temporary data (like Fleeting's spam prevention identifiers)

That said, no system is 100% secure. We do our best, but we can't guarantee absolute security. That's why we collect as little as possible in the first place.

Your Rights

You have rights regarding your personal information:

Access: You can ask what information we have about you
Correction: You can ask us to correct inaccurate information
Deletion: You can ask us to delete your information (subject to legal requirements)
Objection: You can object to certain processing of your data

To exercise these rights, contact us. We'll respond within a reasonable timeframe. Since we collect so little data, most requests will be straightforward.

Children's Privacy

Our applications and website do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Since most of our apps don't collect any data at all, they're safe for users of all ages.

If you're a parent and believe we've inadvertently collected information from your child, contact us immediately and we'll delete it.

International Users

Northern Dread Inc. is a Canadian company. Our website is hosted on Cloudflare's global network, and our shop runs on Shopify's servers. By using our services, your information may be processed in Canada, the United States, or other locations where our service providers operate.

We comply with applicable privacy laws, including GDPR for European users and PIPEDA for Canadian users.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you through the app or website. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.

We won't reduce your privacy rights under this policy without your explicit consent.
